What's the Word Wednesday!

PETRICHOR
noun

The smell of rain on dry earth.
from the Greek petros- stone and -ichor essence thus rock-essence

Coined in 1964 by two Australian researchers for an article in the journal Nature.
found on allwords

Really? I think they could've used a little more imagination coming up with a word to describe such a heavenly scent as the rain falling on the dry, dusty earth. It's such a beautiful scent, how could we describe it with such a hard sounding word?!
